Present Tense  :  Simple  and Continuous

We  use the simple present tense to show  a regular or habitual action and also  general truth.  

We use the present continuous tense to show that an action is going on at the time of speaking or writing.
English : Grammar
A. Base form of verb  =  ‘s ’
 Example  :  make  + s =makes  
B. Base form of verbs + ‘ es ’
Example : catch  + es = catches
C. Case form of verb ending with  ‘y ‘
 Example : replace ‘y ’ with  ‘ ies’
Hurry   + ies = hurries  
For plural nouns and the pronouns  I  /  You /  We / They   :
Base form of verb  = present tense
 Example :   make  ,  catch ,  hurry

The present  continuous tense is formed in this way :
The present tenses form of the verb  ‘ to be ‘ + base form of verb  +   ‘ ing ’
Example :
        The art show is   finishing   next week  

         Sharon   is   organising   a BBQ next Saturday night
The following verbs do not usually take the continuous tense :
 Agree  forget  need   see  like  
 Hear   want  know  belong  dislike
